Under the coordination of Belle Isle Conservancy and the Detroit River Coalition,

the Keep Belle Isle Beautiful (KBIB) is a campaign to educate about the impact of harmful debris in our park and waterways. KBIB inspires park users to protect our precious natural resources, leading to healthier, litter-free parks and neighborhoods throughout Detroit and the Great Lakes region. Together we strive to make an impact at the local level, by reducing litter on Belle Isle – as well as the regional level, by being an active contributor to the umbrella, global campaign to keep our waterways free of plastic pollution.

ExtremeTerrain's Clean Trail Initiative Program

ATLAS Foundation was able to acquire tools needed for trail cleaning and environment restoration. With the help of ExtremeTerrain, we were further able to utilize promotional material to attract volunteers and others outside of our organization.

Hundreds of volunteers from organizations across Michigan showed up to Belle Isle and collectively removed over 3,000 lbs. of plastic waste and debris on the island and around its coastal lines.

2021 Polaris TRAILS Grant

This grant program encompasses preserving access to public land, mainly in trail development and maintenance projects. We used this opportunity to provide education and safety initiatives to increase and maintain land access at Belle Isle.

Much like last year, an estimated 750 volunteers were present and removed a collective of 3,023 lbs of litter from Belle Isle and its waterways from entering the Great lakes!
